New Records Set At Age Group SectionalsMarch 27, 2011 Congratulations to the following swimmers and teams for setting new OSI records at Age Group Sectionals last weekend.
Olympian Jeremy Linn Conducting Clinics in Hood RiverMarch 24, 2011 Olympian Jeremy Linn is coming to Hood River on April 16 and 17th. He is putting on a coaching clinic on Saturday, and kids swim clinics on Sunday. The Hood River Valley Swim Team in inviting any interested swimmers and coaches to come and join us for this very fun, inspiring and insightful event! Here are the details for both events to be held at the Hood River Valley Aquatic Center: The coaching clinic Saturday April 16th from 10am-5pm. It is $25 (includes lunch). There will be a 2 hour class room session, lunch break, then 4 hours on deck working with a couple of swimmers and talking stroke technique and training. On Sunday April 17th he is putting on two swimmers clinics. The clinic for more advanced swimmers is from 9am-noon. The clinic for less advanced swimmers is from 1-4pm. Kids clinics are only $10! Space is limited, so send in your registration now to be assured of a spot. We know Hood River is a bit of a drive from Portland, but thought if any swimmers were interested it would be a good excuse for their family to enjoy blossom festival in Hood River while they take in this very fun swim clinic. Hood Aquatic CenterMarch 24, 2011 Oregon Swimming will be hosting a Navy Seals Fitness Challenge at the Mount Hood Aquatic Center on April 16, 2011.This event is open to all 13 & over USA Swimming athletes. The challenge consists of a 500-yard swim, push ups, pull ups, sit ups, and a 1.5 mile run. Registration for this event is available at the Mount Hood Aquatics Website. Coaches if you want your athletes to compete as a team, register them together so they will go off around the same time. We will be competing against PNS Swimming, Indiana Swimming, Minnesota Swimming, Illinois Swimming, Germantown Academy and the all the Big 10 Schools. This should be an exciting opportunity to challenge our athletes and can be used a benchmark for training and fitness. 2011 Senior Altitude CampMarch 17, 2011 30 ahtletes were chosen to participate in the Senior Altitude Camp in Colorado Springs, April 28 - May 1. Coaching staff: Rick Guenther, Burt Stratton and Jody Braden. More New Oregon RecordsMarch 15, 2011 The recently concluded Senior Sectionals in Federal Way saw a large number of new records.
Also, swimming at the USA Swimming Grand Prix in Indianapolis, MAC's Eetu Karvonen broke the Open 200 meter breaststroke record. His time of 2:17.38 bettered Dan Nyaradi's 2:17.71 set in 2008. Congratulations to all the swimmers. MAC Lowers NAG Relay Record; Other New Records SetMarch 10, 2011 Swimming at the OSI Senior Championships, the MAC relay team of Andre Denegri, Kyle Dalrymple, Max Bley-Male, and Carson Brindle lowered the published 15-16 Boys 200 medley relay national age group record of 1:35.50 by finishing in 1:34.83. The old OSI record stood at 1:36.70 set by THSC way back in 1991. The foursome made a run for the 400 medley relay record but was just shy, finishing in 3:27.75. The time did shatter the 1991 record held by THSC at 3:33.50. At the 11-14 Championships, Thomas Brewer of Bend beat Ben Brink's 13-14 200 IM record of 1:54.65, finishing the race in 1:53.12. Tualatin Hills set two relay records at the 11-14 Championships. Jorge Casas, Sean Calkins, Joshua Yadao and Myron Shen finished the 400 free relay in 3:39.94 to beat THSC's 2010 11-12 relay record of 3:41.43. Jonathan Zoucha, Benjamin Buchalski, Andres La Rosa and Cortlandt Nelsen broke HEAT's 13-14 800 free relay record of 7:22.38 by over 11 seconds. The new record sits at 7:11.33. Swimming at the Speedo Sectionals at Texas A&M last week, Jessie James of CAT broke Julie Moore's 1991 record in the 17-18 1000 freestyle. Jessie finished in 9:56.19 to lower Julie's old record of 10:00.04. Officials needed at Oregon City meetMarch 6, 2011 Oregon City Swim Team is in need of officials for their meet on March 12-13. Applications for altitude Camp availableMarch 3, 2011 Applications for the Altitude Camp for athletes age 14-18, April 28-May 1 in Colorado Springs are available for pick up at the Senior Championships this weekend in Gresham or at the Senior Sectionals in Federal Way. Oregon Masters Swimming is seeking help with officiating at the 2011 State Masters Association Championships at Mt. Hood Aquatic Center April 1st through 3rd, 2011. Sessions include Friday evening April 1st, 3pm to 8pm. Saturday April 2nd 8am to 4pm. Sunday 8am to 3pm. The clinic is open to wwimmers with physical, vision, hearing, and cognitive disabilities aged 18 and younger. The clinic will be held April 2 and is free of charge.
